Often, I’m asked, “do I need to see a Psychologist?”, or “shouldn’t I be able to cope with this myself?”. At times, we can get into a slump, or feel stuck or trapped or feel we don’t have any control over a situation in our personal lives or at work and sometimes it helps to gain an outside professional perspective to help us feel unstuck and make positive changes within our lives. Sometimes individuals need to find a better way to cope with a difficult situation or determine what direction to take next.
It’s not that Sunshine Coast Psychologists give you advise or make these changes for you, it’s that Psychologists can assist you in your life to make better choices and feel better about yourself. We can assist in terms of how you feel about yourself and your self-worth, help you change old unhelpful beliefs (which we call core beliefs), and how you view situations and the world as sometimes we get stuck in old unhelpful negative thinking patterns. Sometimes Clients having thinking responses such as “I can’t cope with that” and a behavioural response, such as “I want to avoid that situation” and we can assist in identifying better coping mechanisms. Generally, we assist Clients gain a better perspective so they can feel unstuck about their lives. We do that through evidence-based therapies and strategies depending on the needs of the Client sometimes that’s through individual psychological counselling and at other times, relationship counselling is required. We also offer employee assistance services and on-line counselling. We are always open for you to ask us questions, especially if you are unsure of the process.
Individual Psychological Counselling
We utilise evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and solution-focused strategies and assist our Clients with anxiety and depression and many other issues that have enabled our Clients to begin living the fulfilling life they desire. We have been providing individual psychological counselling for 15 years.
Relationship Counselling
Often people have questions for instance, “what is the process?” and “what do we need to do for relationship counselling?”. Remember that all questions are welcomed, and most people don’t know the process of coming for relationship counselling. Generally, we recommend that both partners attend the initial consultation together and then the Psychologist will make recommendations in the initial session. You don’t need a GP referral to see a Psychologist, however you can obviously chat with your GP prior to attending.
We provide counselling for couples covering a wide range of issues. We have a history of positive success stories from couples and offer our services with discretion and optimism. We always work on what’s best for your relationship. Often an outside perspective can provide new insights and possibilities to a situation that may at first seem insurmountable.
Employee Assistance Programs
We offer Employee Assistance Programs that are tailored to suit an organisation’s needs. Employee Assistance Programs are programs that assist and benefit Employees and their families. They are offered by Employer Organisations and are intended to assist Employees deal with personal or work-related problems that might adversely impact their work performance, health or well-being. The Employee Assistance Program includes short-term counselling and referral services for Employees and their family for a predetermined number of sessions. The Employee Assistance Program has been developed so that Employees and their families have a free and confidential source of counselling for any workplace or personal issues.
Online Counselling
Often our Clients prefer familiar surroundings when discussing personal issues with our Psychologists. In this way we are pleased to be able to provide a discrete online consultation. The consultation is similar to a face to face session and differs only in the fact that the session takes place online.
Our Clients have found this service to be particularly useful especially Client who live in remote areas and may not have an adequate choice of providers available in their local area.
